As a teaching artist, I’m excited to support young people as they investigate how art can influence social justice. We can all be everyday heroes!
When the YWCA hired me as an assistant teacher over 15 years ago, I had no idea the job would set the course for my life's work. I had the good fortune to learn the ropes in an organization with a clear mission: Eliminate Racism/Empower Women. The YWCA trained me to evaluate my cultural lens. This practice continues to shape my outlook as I work to engage the diverse minds, hearts and voices in our community. I offer the following workshops for older learners:
FINDING YOUR VOICE
We will explore how well we pay attention and what we pay attention to. How do our unique perspectives inform our artistic expressions? Let’s find out!
WRITING TO RAISE AWARENESS: FINDING YOUR MISSION
We will explore the usefulness of cultivating a sense of purpose as an artist. We will examine how our unique worldviews and perspectives can help us raise people’s awareness about things that they might not know, or might not want to know about.
